J599E8 series quick-connect optical fiber connectors Product features
The J599E8 series circular connectors have interface dimensions that are in line with the GJB599B (MIL-DTL-38999) series and the performance meets the ARINC801 standard.
In this series, the optical communication versions can be the most suitable for the aviation, electronics, and marine systems industries to accomplish multi-channel optical communication requirements. Their quick-connect optical fiber units feature beam expansion lens encapsulation, and they use a non-contact optical fiber docking method. At the same time, the beam expansion type optical fiber connectors utilize beam expansion technology to release the excellent capability for the optical fiber contact parts to resist dust and dirt.
Moreover, the series adopts a closed-type 0 ceramic sleeve that greatly increases the product insertion and extraction times. The contact installation and removal tool (M81969/14-03), which is provided with the product, makes the operation simple and maintenance much easier.
What is beam expansion technology?
Working principle:
The connector ferrule houses an integrated micro lens group. As a result, the optical signal at the transmitting end is first collimated and expanded into a parallel "beam". This beam is then accurately focused into the core of the target optical fiber by a lens at the receiving end.
Core advantages:
1. Avoid physical damage: The end faces of the optical fibers are separated by a tiny air gap, thus there is no direct contact, which means that end face scratches and wear caused by repeated plugging and unplugging, vibration and friction are completely eliminated.
2. Resistance to pollution: Dust or pollutants have very little impact on the parallel light after beam expansion as compared to direct contact with the fiber core, thus connection stability in a dusty environment is greatly improved.
3. Stable performance: Insertion loss is not very much affected by axial clearance and slight angular deviation, thus it is possible to have vibration and temperature changes but still, the signal will be reliable.
FAQ
Q1: Where is the J599E8 series mostly used?
A1: Its excellent reliability makes it the first selection in the following areas:
Defense and aerospace:
Communication and data link systems for tanks, armored vehicles, fighter jets, and warships.
Industrial automation:
Control networks for mobile robots, heavy machinery, and production lines with strong vibration.
Communication base stations and rapidly deployable equipment that are experiencing variable environments.
Q2: Is the J599E8 series connector compatible with the standard J599 (MIL-DTL-38999) connector?
A2: It is fully compatible. The J599E8 series features a standard J599 (MIL-DTL-38999) interface housing and threaded coupling structure. Electrically, this means that one can be connected with standard interface panels or electrical connectors of the same series mechanically. However, please be aware that the achievement of optical performance requires both ends to be beam-expanding fiber optic contacts.
